8 Things That Sound Hot Until You Actually Do Them

8 Things That Sound Hot Until You Actually Do Them | Sliquid Journal

Sex has an incredible marketing department.

Movies, books, porn, and that one friend who leaves out every inconvenient detail have convinced us that certain things are objectively hot. And listen, sometimes they are.

Other times, you finally do the thing you have been picturing forever and realize nobody mentioned the logistics.

This is not a list of things you should not try. Try all of them. Have a beautiful time. We are simply saying that sometimes the fantasy gets a 10 out of 10 while the actual experience gets a very generous 6.

Let's discuss.

1. Shower Sex

Shower sex has been getting away with false advertising for YEARS.

The fantasy: Steam. Water cascading down naked bodies. Slippery skin. Somebody gets pushed against a wall. Everything looks like a fragrance commercial with an R rating.

The reality: Why is the person not directly under the water suddenly freezing?

Now you are switching places every 45 seconds so everyone gets equal access to warmth. There is shampoo in somebody's eye. The shower floor has become a workplace hazard. You tried to reposition and nearly took the shower curtain down with you.

And perhaps the greatest betrayal of all: all that water is not helping you in the lubrication department.

Water can actually wash away natural lubrication, meaning you can be standing in a literal stream of water thinking, why do we need more moisture?

Because bodies are funny like that.

Fantasy: 10/10

Logistics: 4/10

Would we do it again? Unfortunately, yes.

2. Doing It Somewhere You Could Get Caught

The idea of getting caught is hot.

Actually getting caught? Completely different genre.

There is something undeniably exciting about being somewhere you probably should not be, knowing someone could walk by, and feeling like you are getting away with something.

Then you hear a door.

Suddenly nobody is in the mood anymore. You are both completely still, staring at each other like two raccoons caught digging through someone's trash.

Did you hear that?

Yes.

Was that a person?

I DON'T KNOW.

Now you are listening for footsteps instead of enjoying yourself.

Turns out there is an extremely thin line between dangerously sexy and I do not want to explain this to another adult.

Fantasy: 9/10

Logistics: 2/10

Would we do it again? Somewhere with a lock.

"There is an extremely thin line between dangerously sexy and I do not want to explain this to another adult."

3. Car Sex

Cars are enormous until you try to have sex in one.

A full SUV can somehow transform into a Honda Civic the second two grown adults attempt to get comfortable.

The seat will not go back far enough. There is a seat belt buckle somewhere underneath you that has apparently been sharpened. Somebody's knee is pressed against a cup holder. The center console has become your mortal enemy.

And if you accidentally hit the horn?

Nothing brings you back to reality faster than HONNNNK in the middle of what was supposed to be a sexy moment.

Then there is the inevitable question:

Should we get in the back?

Yes.

You should have been in the back 15 minutes ago.

Fantasy: 8/10

Logistics: Depends heavily on the vehicle

Would we do it again? Absolutely. But we are stretching first.

4. Sex on the Beach

There are two types of people in this world:

People who think sex on the beach sounds romantic.

And people who have experienced sand.

A beach at night is admittedly doing a LOT for the fantasy. Waves crashing. Warm air. Moonlight. Maybe you are on vacation. Maybe you have had a few drinks. Suddenly you are looking at that little secluded area like you have just had an original thought.

You have not.

And the sand has been waiting for you.

Sand does not stay politely underneath a towel. Sand travels. Sand explores. Sand believes deeply in being included.

There are simply some places where exfoliation was never requested.

Fantasy: 10/10

Logistics: Sand/10

Would we do it again? Beach first. Hotel afterward. We have evolved.

"Sand does not stay politely underneath a towel. Sand travels. Sand explores. Sand believes deeply in being included."

5. Bringing Food Into Bed

At some point, Hollywood convinced all of us that food is inherently sexy.

Strawberries? Sure.

Chocolate? Okay.

Whipped cream? Now we are getting ambitious.

Because nobody talks about what happens after.

The sexy portion of the evening ends and suddenly you are lying in crumbs. There is something sticky on your elbow. You do not know how chocolate got over there. Your fitted sheet has entered a new phase of its life.

And whipped cream is dairy.

We need to start respecting that fact.

There is nothing seductive about realizing at 12:47 a.m. that you need to strip the bed.

Fantasy: 8/10

Logistics: 3/10

Would we do it again? Strawberries may stay. Everyone else has lost bedroom privileges.

6. Going for HOURS

At a certain age, you realize that "we went for four hours" raises more questions than envy.

Four hours?

Straight?

Did nobody get thirsty?

Nobody had to pee?

What were you trying to prove?

Long sessions can be fantastic. Taking your time can be fantastic. Going back for more can be fantastic.

But eventually the body sends a calendar invite titled Can We Wrap This Up?

Muscles get tired. Positions that felt amazing 30 minutes ago suddenly require adjustments. Friction starts becoming a factor. Somebody needs water. Somebody's hungry.

And this is exactly why lube is not just for when you "need" it. If we are settling in for the director's cut, we are reducing unnecessary friction from the beginning.

There is no trophy for making sex last as long as Titanic.

Sometimes 20 incredible minutes beats two hours of everybody refusing to admit they are tired.

Fantasy: 10/10

Logistics: Bring water

Would we do it again? Yes, but we are hydrating and keeping the lube within arm's reach.

7. That Position You Saw Online

You saw it.

You paused.

You examined the diagram.

And for one beautiful, delusional moment, you thought:

Oh, we could do that.

Could you?

Because the people demonstrating these positions always seem to possess several qualities the average person may not have, including exceptional hip mobility, suspiciously strong cores, and apparently no fear of lower back injuries.

Now you are halfway into it and somebody asks:

Wait, where does my leg go?

Nobody knows.

There is an arm trapped somewhere. A calf is cramping. One person is supporting significantly more body weight than originally agreed upon.

And you are both concentrating so hard on maintaining the position that nobody is actually having fun.

Are we having sex or assembling IKEA furniture?

If the instructions require a diagram, perhaps the diagram should also include an emergency exit.

Fantasy: 9/10

Logistics: Physical therapy/10

Would we do it again? The modified version.

"Are we having sex or assembling IKEA furniture?"

8. The Hotel Balcony

Oh, the hotel balcony.

The fantasy is elite.

You are on vacation. The city is glowing beneath you. You are wearing a robe that belongs to the hotel and therefore somehow makes you 40% hotter. You have had a drink. The weather is perfect. Your responsibilities are hundreds of miles away.

You step outside.

You look at each other.

And then you have the thought.

We could...

And technically, yes.

But let's survey the environment.

  • Balcony to the left: occupied.
  • Balcony to the right: suspiciously quiet.
  • Building directly across from you: approximately 400 windows.
  • People walking below: more observant than you would like.

Suddenly you are realizing that the sexy private balcony advertised on the hotel website is, architecturally speaking, not private at all.

The balcony is incredible for tension. Have the drink. Exchange the look. Stand too close. Enjoy your vacation.

Then take yourselves back inside and close the curtains.

Fantasy: 12/10

Logistics: Absolutely not/10

Would we do it again? The balcony can host the pregame.

Where Sliquid Fits Into the Conversation

You will notice that a few of these problems share a cause. Water washes away natural lubrication. Long sessions outlast it. Awkward positions add friction nobody planned for.

Sliquid believes intimate formulas should be designed with intimate tissue in mind, not adapted from products made for ordinary external skin. Sassy is our thicker water based gel, made with ultra concentrated plant cellulose and free of glycerin and parabens, for the moments that need a little more cushion and a lot more staying power.

That does not mean lube fixes the sand, the seat belt buckle, or the neighbors on the next balcony. It means one of the eight problems on this list is genuinely solvable, alongside:

  • Choosing a location with a door that locks
  • Keeping water within reach if you are settling in for a while
  • Being honest about what your hamstrings can realistically deliver

The Fantasy Can Stay

Here is the thing: none of this means these things are not hot.

That is almost what makes them fun.

Sometimes the logistics are terrible and you do it anyway. Sometimes the awkward part becomes the funniest part of the night. Sometimes you discover shower sex actually IS your thing, your car is surprisingly accommodating, or your hamstrings are far more capable than you gave them credit for.

Sex does not have to be perfectly executed to be good.

But we do think it is time somebody finally admitted that some of the sexiest ideas on paper require entirely too much project management in real life.

Try the thing.

Bring the lube.

And maybe keep the fitted sheet out of it.

"Sex does not have to be perfectly executed to be good."
